Indian Head Massage
Practitioner Course
A potential 4 day course leading to a
qualification which will enable you to practise Indian Head Massage
professionally. The course is accredited by the General Natural
Practitioner’s Guild (GNPG), as a CPD course.
The first two days of the course, with their emphasis on the massage
routine, can also be taken separately for personal interest and for
use with friends and family. There is no obligation to continue
after this point to the professional qualification stage, or to
complete any coursework or case studies.
The complete course consists of 4 contact days of tuition, and a
separate assessment for both the theory and practical components of
the course. In addition, there will be a written assignment and a
case study exercise to complete in order to gain the professional
qualification, plus an Anatomy & Physiology assignment. You will
present these in a Portfolio of Evidence.
The subject areas covered by the course include:
• A Massage Routine covering the Upper Back, Shoulders,
Upper Arms, Neck, Scalp and Face
• Different Types of Massage Movements and Their Benefits
• The Use of Oils in Massage
• Contra Indications to Indian Head Massage
• Possible Contra Actions
• Indian Head Massage and Stress Relief
• Ayurvedic Principles
• The Chakra System
• The Aura
• Marma Points
• Meridians
• Client Management
• Professional Ethics
• Business Set-Up and Marketing
The written assignment will include questions on the areas outlined
above. You will need 3 people for your case studies, and will treat
each of them 3 times and then follow a set format for reporting the
progress of each case study client. The anatomy and physiology
component will be set primarily as a home study module, and assessed
in a multiple choice test.
The final theory assessment will be presented also as a multiple
choice test paper. The final practical assessment will require you
to bring your own client to the Positive Living Centre, and to work
through the initial consultation, treatment plan, delivery of the
massage routine, the provision of after care and a final evaluation.
The course tutor –Liz Manison has taught ITEC and VTCT IHM courses
at several colleges of Further Education and the standard of this
course reflects her teaching experience.
We look forward to seeing you for either the two day Introduction to
Indian Head Massage, or to working with you on the four day
professional course!
